Small School. Big Heart. Endless Possibilities.

Welcome to Leighton CP School

A little school with a big heart, where every child is known, every voice matters and every day brings new opportunities to shine.

Nestled in the beautiful countryside just a stone’s throw from Welshpool, Leighton CP School is more than just a place to learn — it’s a place to belong.

At the heart of our school is a warm, close-knit community where children are nurtured, friendships flourish and everyone is valued for who they are. Our small size is one of our greatest strengths, allowing us to truly know each child, celebrate their individuality and help them grow in confidence, curiosity and independence.

With the countryside on our doorstep, learning extends far beyond the classroom. We embrace the opportunities our wonderful surroundings offer, encouraging children to explore, discover, ask questions and develop a lifelong love of learning.

We believe that happy children thrive. Through caring relationships, exciting learning experiences and a strong sense of togetherness, we create a place where children feel safe to be themselves, confident to take on challenges and proud of all they achieve.

At Leighton, we may be small in size, but our aspirations, opportunities and sense of community are anything but.

Come and discover the little school with so much to offer.

  • CURRICULUM SUMMARY

At Leighton Community Primary School, we provide a vibrant, exciting and inclusive curriculum, carefully designed around the needs, experiences and aspirations of our learners and our unique rural community. Rooted in the four purposes of Curriculum for Wales, our newly developed curriculum aims to nurture ambitious, capable learners; enterprising, creative contributors; ethical, informed citizens; and healthy, confident individuals.

Learning is brought to life through engaging ‘big questions’ which spark curiosity and give children a meaningful purpose for their learning. Through our four-year rolling programme, pupils explore rich enquiries which make connections across the Areas of Learning and Experience, while progressively developing their knowledge, skills, confidence and independence. Wherever possible, learning is rooted in authentic experiences – drawing upon our local environment and community, outdoor learning and opportunities to work creatively, investigate, problem-solve and apply learning in real-life contexts.

Our learners are at the heart of our curriculum. Learning is co-constructed with pupils, with their questions, observations and ideas helping to influence the direction of each enquiry. Assessment is an integral part of everyday teaching and learning, enabling teachers to respond flexibly to individual needs, provide appropriate support and challenge, and ensure that every child is able to make meaningful progress.

Our strong sense of Cynefin is woven throughout our curriculum. Children learn about their village, rural surroundings, Welsh heritage, language and culture, developing a strong sense of place, identity and belonging before making connections with Wales and the wider world.  Cymraeg is an integral part of school life, with children encouraged to use Welsh authentically across their learning while celebrating the stories, traditions and culture of Wales.

Above all, we want our children to develop a lifelong love of learning. Within our safe, caring and inclusive environment, we foster natural curiosity and encourage children to embrace ‘marvellous mistakes’ as an important part of learning – developing the resilience and confidence to take risks, learn from experience and keep moving forward. We celebrate diversity and provide opportunities for children to encounter different languages, cultures and perspectives, while the values of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child help our learners understand their rights and responsibilities and grow into respectful, compassionate and informed members of their community and the wider world.

Ready, Respectful & Safe!
