Congratulations to all at Leighton Primary school for achieving Phase 4 of the Powys Healthy Schools Award.
I’m writing to give some feedback from the morning which we both thoroughly enjoyed.
‘The highlight of our visit was the great understanding the Schools council and Eco council had in regards what it is to be a healthy school. Pupil participation came across very strong where the pupils we met felt happy and proud to be a part of the Leighton School community.
A strength was the consistent approach from foundation phase to Yr 6 towards ensuring emotional health and wellbeing of the children was valued through programs such as KIVA, Value systems, Premier League Stars, Incredible Years, Golden time, Playtime rota, good behaviour awards in assembly, buddy step, feelings charts, Police Core Liaison program and more.
It was clear Physical activity was embedded in the daily life of the school with a range of after school clubs, sports ambassadors and active playtimes. Healthy eating was always encouraged with Healthy living assemblies, Fruit time in KS1 and rolling out to KS2.
There is a strong Leighton community with an active FOLS (Friends of Leighton School) organising Macmillan Coffee mornings, sponsored dribble etc and it was great to see all the work achieved on ‘Love your school day ’with the incredible bug house!’
